Florida-based dancehall artiste Jah Single is working diligently to carve a niche for himself in the music business by recording what he describes as purpose-driven music.
“Like every other aspiring artiste I want to get my big break in the music biz, but I’m not going to achieve this goal by taking shortcuts. I believe in making good quality music; all my songs are properly produced, and all of them carry positive messages. I don’t record just for the sake of recording. I make purpose-driven music, music that can save lives and uplift people,” said the artiste.
The St. Catherine-born singjay says his recently released single titled Cold World is proof of his commitment to making good music.
“I wrote this song to tell the youths to stay alert and protect themselves in the streets. It’s a cold world. Friends are killing friends out there; it’s a dog-eat-dog world. You have to know how to navigate the travails of life. The message in this song is serious, but it’s delivered in an entertaining way. The youths can relate to it. It’s music with a purpose,” he said.
Jah Single recently did a promotional run in Jamaica in support of the song, which was released on February 7.
“While I was in Jamaica, I did several interviews and public appearances, including a performance at the Cross Country launch in Mandela Park. I also performed at 22 Jerk’s weekly live concert. I received a warm reception everywhere I went; the people in Jamaica loved my music. I am very happy that my local fan base is growing because Jamaica is a very important market.”
Determined to keep the momentum going, he is gearing up to drop a hot new single titled Oo Yeah in May.
